Language mediation promotes inclusivity and equity, bridges communication gaps between students and teachers, and among students themselves, and supports language development. It fosters a sense of belonging and cultural pride among students and teaches all students to appreciate diversity. It can help ensure that language barriers do not impede a student’s ability to learn and succeed and reduces misunderstandings and conflicts. By fostering an environment where language learning and usage are supported, language mediation encourages students to become lifelong learners who are comfortable navigating multilingual and multicultural contexts. Participants of this workshop will have an understanding of the principles and practices of language mediation and be prepared to implement these strategies to support their students’ language development.
