Research from general pedagogy has shown that individual participation in lessons is strongly linked with individual achievement. This is especially important in teaching FL speaking, since speaking leads to the internalisation of language knowledge. However, when it comes to the talking time of teachers vs talking time of learners in EFL lessons, in many cases teachers underestimate the amount of time they spend speaking. Students do not talk much, and sometimes they do not speak at all during
lessons. This workshop aims to provide practical advice on how to enhance speaking time of all learners using various learner-friendly and teacher-friendly activities and assessment formats.
